Michele is a painter of souls. Her portraits not only capture the physical characteristics of her subjects, but some how seem to breathe the very essence of the person.
“This is a very exciting shift in my art. I never considered myself a “portrait artist” but people are really responding well to my new series. The immediate challenge is, obviously, to make the painting look like the person. But to me, a true likeness is deeper than the outward appearance. You must somehow capture the spirit, the energy of that person. The eyes are the secret in painting one's soul...but to paint their energy is something much different. It is not technical. There are no formulas. To be able to paint one's energy is my personal artistic challenge. The “body art” is a way I connect with my subject by painting me, my art, on their body. This, I think, will make my series of portraits unique.”
